ABOUT
PHATCAMP
PHATCAMP is an abolitionist organization rooted in Southeast San Diego, a community deeply impacted by poverty, systemic neglect, and decades
of disinvestment. Through bold policy advocacy and civic engagement, we fight for reinvestment in
mental health, housing, and community-led safety. Instead of relying on police, prisons, and
punitive systems, we build alternatives that center healing, empowerment, and collective care. Beyond advocacy, we directly connect community members to service providers offering
mental health services, substance use treatment, housing, and holistic wellness care. Annually,
PHATCAMP brings together BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ survivors of state and interpersonal violence,
coerced survival economies, and community-based conflict to play sports, build solidarity, and heal
collectively outside clinical settings. Our trauma-informed approach uses sports and creative
expression to help participants restore trust, reclaim joy, and build solidarity. To date, our efforts
have provided support and healing spaces for hundreds of survivors, resulting in tangible shifts
toward community well-being. We collaborate closely with local movement leaders to harness our
collective power. PHATCAMP welcomes partnerships with organizers, funders, providers, and
allies committed to dismantling systems of punishment and investing in healing justice. We refuse
to wait for systems that have continually failed us. We’ve chosen to show up for ourselves, co-
creating our own support networks because we understand that liberation is in our hands.
Through organizing, advocacy, and play, we are building a future where collective care, justice, and
healing replaces cycles of violence and trauma. Our liberation depends on each other, and as a
community, we have nothing to lose but our chains.
Our five-week community softball enhancement game and event, WHERE IT ALL STARTED...
PHATCAMP community building enhancement softball program promotes physical and emotional self-care through team-building activities and sports, benefiting not only those in San Diego but also those in need beyond California. Our seasonal softball program, open to all regardless of experience, exemplifies the spirit of PHATCAMP and has been instrumental in shaping our organization. This program allows us to expand our offerings, creating more opportunities that benefit our communities.
We invite you to join our seasonal softball program, which requires no prior experience. All we ask is that you bring courage, a willingness to engage in physical, emotional, and spiritual leadership, along with an open heart and positive intentions. Together, we can continue to build a supportive and empowering community.
